Welcome

St. John's is a popular, family school with an excellent reputation for offering a caring, creative experience, one where we get to know our pupils as individuals; where they enjoy coming to school in a secure and positive environment; one that stimulates enthusiasm, creativity, independence and provides a challenge for all.

The needs of the whole child continue to be our main focus; Ofsted recognised in 2005 that, our pupils learning and needs are at the heart of our school, the impact being an inclusive school, recognised as very good with good SEN provision and outstanding leadership of the Headteacher who has developed a positive culture in her team of continued school improvement.' Pupils achieve above average overall and well above average for higher attainers and for writing. (LA Nov 07)

As a staff we constantly want to stretch our own boundaries as well as those of the children. We see ourselves as learners as well as the pupils in our care. Staff achieve good or outstanding in their teaching and/or leadership. Our Higher Level Teaching Assistants have recently been awarded Ambassador status for Richmond. As a result we received a delegation from Singapore, including the Education Minister, in the Summer term 07, the purpose to analyse our leadership and organisation strategies.

As a junior school we believe we have a great responsibility in ensuring our pupils, who join us as infants and leave us as seniors, are confident, skilled young people, fully prepared to meet the challenges of the ever changing outside world. Pupils have very good attitudes to school, behave very well, many extremely well (Ofsted 2005 LA 2007). Parent's recent note and letters of thanks to me on their children …'they have been able to flourish, it's a pleasure to see them grow into confident young people and 'I wanted you to know we count ourselves very fortunate to have such a well-run school with a happy atmosphere that our children enjoy and that now boasts excellent facilities to match.'

The majority of our pupils join us from our outstanding feeder school, Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery school and leave us as seniors to our link secondary Teddington School, a school for the future with an excellent reputation; Teddington School. We also have a number of children who move onto grammar and independent schools, (see exit survey for 2007 in the 'frequently requested' section of the documents page).

We have a very supportive office staff. Governors work closely with us and we have a thriving PTA; we are a happy and welcoming team.

We have a love of life at St. John's. The key messages behind our philosophy reflect our Christian ethos; 'Take responsibility for your own actions and treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself' then, 'Go for it!' As a result these positive attitudes permeate school life, with children and staff becoming confident, yet caring and creative risk takers.

Our new attached Local Authority Partner sent us this comment after her visit to the St. John's 'This is a very vibrant school with a real focus on learning and a very exciting place to visit with lots of extra curricular activities.' Richmond Local Authority Inspector 2007

Do come and visit us too, I look forward to taking you on a tour of St. John's…
