Parents and the School

At St John's, we believe that parents/guardians are uniquely placed to support their children, to make them receptive and motivated towards their school work. Successful learning relies upon the professional skills of teachers and is enhanced by spirit of collaboration between home and school.

In order to give parents/guardians the opportunity to discuss pupils' work with class teachers, consultation evenings are held during the Autumn and Spring Terms. Towards the end of the Summer Term, parents/guardians are sent reports which provide detailed information on progress in all National Curriculum subjects. Also included are comments on the child's personal and social development throughout the year.

At the beginning of the Autumn Term, a short meeting is held by class teachers to explain the arrangements for the year and to give details of the various curriculum components.

Should you have any worries concerning your child's academic progress or general well-being, the school should be contacted as early as possible. It is important that such matters are dealt with promptly.

We welcome regular consultation with Parents/guardians, who should either use the daily homework diary or telephone the school office to make an appointment. Unless the matter is urgent, it would be appreciated if parents did not attempt to see teachers in the morning before school since this time is vitally important for the preparation of the day's work.

Although, in the normal course of events, your child's class teacher will be your first point of reference, the Headteacher is available by appointment.

During the course of the year, parents/guardians will be invited to a variety of school events. These will include concerts, special assemblies, award presentations, sports events and an open day in the second part of the Summer Term. You will be notified of these and other events through letters home and the official school newsletter 'The Lamb' .
